My mission is to light the fire within you to change your life. I want you to see that you have the power to change yourself and become the person you want to be.
You can have a body you are proud of, perform amazingly, and live a healthy life. You can be confident that you can sustain all of that for as long as you are willing. It's my goal to show you how.
Yo! I'm Alex Maclin.
I guess since this is an "About Me" page that means I have to talk about myself.
Truth be told, I hate talking about myself. I'm more of an action-speak-louder-than-words type person. I'd rather show you what kind of person I am and let you decide.
But that being said, I know you came here to learn about me and what I do.
So here's a little about me.
First off, my journey is complicated and I'm giving you the pretty abridged version. There are some podcasts and videos you can listen to and watch to get my full story.
Before getting involved in the fitness industry, I was working on a Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering. I got by Master's but I didn't finish my doctorate because I decided that helping people improve their lives through better fitness and Olympic Weightlifting was my calling.
In the 8+ years years I've been in this industry I've:
- Coached hundreds of athletes through online training programs for weightlifting, strength and conditioning.
- Been exposed to and learned directly from some of the smartest, most successful people in fitness.
- Hosted the Barbell Shrugged Podcast for a moment.
- Competed at national-level and regional-level meets in Olympic Weightlifting.
- Coached weightlifters at the national and regional levels.
- Obtained coaching certifications through Precision Nutrition, USA Weightlifting, Eleiko Sport and CrossFit®.
Just like you I've also been on my own personal fitness journey. I started as a super-overweight post-grad Frat Daddy who partied way too much, ate and lived like shit and then through lots of hard work, time and dedication to health and fitness became the guy I am now.
It wasn't easy and I made LOTS of mistakes--especially with nutrition. I tried so many different diets over the years. Some worked and some didn't. Even the ones that "worked", didn't really work because I couldn't sustain what I was supposed to do. What ultimately worked was discovering and learning what methods worked best for me and creating a lifestyle of habits to support how I wanted to live. That process still continues as I seek to improve and get a little better each day.
After witnessing the effect practicing sustainable nutrition had on changing how I looked, how I lived my life, and how I felt about myself, I realized that I had to share what I had learned because I saw so many people struggling to figure out how to eat and live healthy.
So I started helping people come to the same observations and realization and it dawned upon me that helping people improve their nutrition and totally 180 their lives was my jam.
Now I'm here on my own website doing my best to help people like you make a true lasting change to your life, health and body by sharing what I've learned and showing you the path towards creating your own success. That's what fires me up everyday.
